LOCAL PAPER STORY: Read of Mrs Catherine Carroll, one of Beaumaris Conservation Society pioneers from BTPS’s start in 1953 till her death in the years after the 2003 Golden Jubilee.

The “Beau-maris or Bare-maris” leaflet:  Mrs Carroll mentioned this leaflet in the above story as being so effective in starting BTPS’s early work.

DUNLOP RUBBER’S MAIN FACTORY: Mrs Carroll told how this was nearly relocated from Port Melbourne to Beaumaris, but World War II changed the plan.

1964 “OCEANARIUM” PLAN: Mrs Carroll recalled BTPS rallying Beaumaris against such a blight on Ricketts Point, saving it for today’s Marine Sanctuary.

MAGISTRATE’S 1981 TEA TREE PRECEDENT: Mr & Mrs Carroll saved a mature coastal tea tree on their property boundary by defending it in court.

1981 HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP: The late Mrs Carroll, the second Treasurer of BTPS, was made an Honorary Life Member of BCS Inc. in 1987 in recognition of  her work. Her late husband, John, was similarly honoured in 1999.
