Beaumaris was named
after Beaumaris in Wales, now a
sister city of the City of Bayside, Victoria, from the Norman French words "beau
mareys" meaning "fair marsh". (The last of those
links also shows good photographs of Beaumaris Castle, which King Edward I began to build in 1295,
without being restrained, as our present sovereign
is, by any municipal planning scheme, or vegetation
