President’s Report Once again we have seen
another busy year. With yet another burn site to deal with and the ongoing
maintenance of our other heathland reserves. With the council taking over
the managerial responsibilities of Gramatan Heathland
Sanctuary we have seen a very real increase in the work occurring at the
site. New fencing, upgrading of the perimeter fire break, further efforts to
remove exotic grasses, development and installation of the interpretive board
and the regeneration burn of the northern half of the Sanctuary. Since
acquiring the management of the site by the Council there has been a real
partnership between the Council and the Society to the benefit of the
reserve. The site of the Wildfire at The ongoing saga of the Heathland situated at the rear of Beaumaris Campus looks close to being resolved. It appears that the title has been moved from the Ministry of Education and Training to the Department of Conservation and Environment. Handweeding of the burn site has continued, though there is always so much to do and some extra assistance certainly wouldn't go astray. The work of Geoffrey and Ken
with regard to street trees is bearing fruit with the use of more suitable
trees throughout Beaumaris. This is particularly evident along Finally the magnificent coastline
of Beaumaris has seen an increased effort by the local council in removing
weeds and and planting indigenous plants. Rob Casamento |
